After we Invest, we provide on-going support to our companies. Here are some examples.
As mentioned in Verify, we require professional investor representation on the board. We will gladly fill that role until Series A or leverage a professional co-investor.
Having been a founder/CEO with a 10-year path to a successful exit, Joe can empathize with and often help founders we fund. In many cases, we (or one of our advisory partners) can be a great resource to the company. There are other times we can’t. We keep our noses in but fingers out and help only where there is mutual agreement that it makes sense.
On one end of the spectrum is this biotech company with a world-class rock star team where we feel lucky to have had the opportunity to invest early. They are a complete team who have worked together for many years. Our ability to help them will be limited to introductions to VCs for future rounds.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are the brilliant technical founders with compelling visions solving big important problems, but with some of the pieces of their team or strategy missing. Often technical founders don’t have a clear vision for what sales or marketing needs to look like. As a CEO who built a successful global sales team, including hiring VPs of sales, sales executives, account managers, and product specialists (sales engineers), Joe has often helped CEOs envision and realize success in this function.
Sometimes CEOs are mired in too many attractive directions. Joe’s experience as a strategy consultant (at Strategic Decisions Group and The Decision Company) helps us help the team quickly reach shared commitment to the most appropriate strategic direction.
